Physical Activity Initiatives

The Coca-Cola Company has long supported programs around the world that promote nutrition education and encourage physical activity among people of all ages. The Company currently supports active, healthy living programs in 100 countries.

SOGO Active
Coca-Cola in Canada has partnered with ParticipACTION to launch a unique youth driven active living program that gives Canadian teens the tools to design their own individual get active plan. The program, SOGO Active, is being executed through intensive consultation with leading Canadian physical activity experts, teenagers and a broad network of provincial, territorial and community-based organizations. SOGO Active is now available in over 1000 communities across Canada. It focuses on Canadian teenagers aged 13 – 19 and provides a myriad of solutions to youth inactivity at the local community organization level.

Over 1,000 SOGO Active participants were chosen to carry the Olympic Torch in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. As active living ambassadors, these Torchbearers will help raise awareness of the need for positive action to address Canada’s rising levels of inactivity, and encourage others to become involved along the way. They are modern examples of what we call living positively – of being inspired and inspiring others. They are examples of those who aim to pursue new heights of possibility and to turn obstacles into opportunities, en route to impacting a more positive reality for themselves and for all of Canada.

SOGO Active is a $5 million, five-year initiative. For more information visit www.sogoactive.com.
